Accretions

Accretion Disk 1 - 2008
Accretion Disk 1 – 2008

Intoned – 2:52
A short piece of processed vocal sound, creating various vocal remnants which were evocative to me of an accretion disk.

Protosyntax – 9:42
A longer sonic interpretation of the accretion disk, also involving a vocal sound as the source. This piece has more of a bell shape to it – starting with short, granular vocal sounds and evolving to more speech-like patterns and then back to noise-like patterns.

Sonotrope – 12:37
The sonic equivalent of a zoetrope. Starting with a short spoken sample from a radio broadcast, this piece uses granular synthesis techniques to break down the vocals into short constituent parts, and gradually increases the speed of these particles while at the same time slowly sweeping through the time domain of the speech.

Vocal Accretion 4 – 6:07
This piece starts out with a very densely-layered vocal chorus, all derived from the same single vocal source, which continues until abruptly changing to a granulated noise texture.
